Grief and Loss
Enduring a heavy loss? Feeling the weight of grief?
In response to loss, grief has a tendency to make us feel stuck under a rock!
“I just can’t seem to move out from under it. It’s affecting my whole life!”
The heaviness of the experience is normal and seemingly all-consuming.
BUT IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE THAT WAY FOREVER!
I work with clients to find ways to integrate their stories of loss so that feelings associated with it are not so overwhelming.
“I want to make meaning from my experience of loss, rather be weighed down by it.”
Embracing the meaning attached to your loss is the first step to making grief feel less burdensome.
Loss and grief are natural parts of life, but they do not need to be omnipresent!
THERAPY WITH ME:
Often, the demanding nature of loss originates from the expectation that grief MUST occur a certain way.
An essential component of the work is understanding that all responses to grief (i.e. deep sadness, repression, emotional paralysis, distraction, humor, etc.) are OKAY!
Recognizing the most helpful way to grieve can be difficult.
I work with clients to discover a way of grieving that feels right for them, support them in making meaning from the experience, and facilitate effective communication with supportive figures.
Regardless of the reason for a loss – death or non-death – everyone should be able have their own journey of grief and mourning.
